Prof. Bert Holtslag is affiliated to Wageningen University as Professor of Meteorology and as chair of the Meteorology and Air Quality Section since May 1999. Overall, Bert has a broad interest in Meteorology and as such he advised many PhD and MSc students on a variety of subjects. His particular interest is advancing the knowledge of the atmospheric boundary layer, the further understanding of the complex atmosphere-land interactions and application of these insights to weather, climate, wind energy, urbanization and dispersion of trace gases and pollutants. To advance the modeling of atmospheric boundary layers, Bert is co-chairing the Atmospheric boundary layer Study (GABLS) of the Global Energy and W ater Cycle Experiment (GEWEX). Before his current job at Wageningen University, Bert was working (as a part time professor of Meteorology) at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research at Utrecht University (IMAU) from 1993 until 1999, and at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in De Bilt from 1977 until 1999 in various research positions. In addition he made frequent visits and sabbaticals to other research groups, in particular the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO, USA.
