Dr. Wouter Knap obtained his Ph. D. in remote sensing of glaciers and ice sheets at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), Utrecht University. He worked on the development and improvement of algorithms for the retrieval of the surface albedo of snow and glacier ice on the basis of ground-based radiation measurements. Between 1998 and 2002 he worked as a project scientist at KNMI on atmospheric radiative transfer, with emphasis on radiative transfer in ice clouds. He developed algorithms for the retrieval of ice and water cloud properties (cloud thermodynamic-phase, ice crystal or droplet size, and optical thickness) from SCIAMACHY measurements. In 2001 he was team member of the CLOSAeR project and was involved in performing radiative transfer calculations with MODTRAN 4.1. Currently, he works on the research of clouds/aerosols and radiation by means of ground-based measurements (CESAR or other) and atmospheric radiative transfer modelling.
