Dr. Georg Hoffmann studied Physics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum where he made his Diploma with a study using Quantum-Field Theory within classical Nuclear Physics. He obtained his Phd.at the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, on modeling the water isotopic composition of precipitation using a general circulation model, ECHAM. After two years of PostDoc position at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climatet de l`Environnement (LSCE), Gif-sur-Yvette, France, he became an employee of the Commissariat à l`EnergieAtomique (CEA) and a Senior Scientist at the LSCE. His specialty is the study of the global water cycle and its coupling to the carbon cycle. He worked on the interpretation of various paleo-records from glacial archives from Greenland and Antarctica. Recently he moved to Utrecht for a project comparing the water isotope information obtained by remote sensing techniques on different satellites with results from a water isotope module of the EC-Earth community climate model.
